Work hard on capturing tone and atmosphere through word choice, formatting and using line breaks and white space because those scripts and novels that really captured me ALWAYS had a great voice. Unfortunately, the writer’s voice is the toughest thing to capture on film, so many films fail to capture the essence of a novel or even the original screenplay.

A few years back, I gave a talk to the lovely people of the Romance Writers of America and they interviewed me for their magazine.

…a Recommend grade is very rarely given… you should not make it your specific goal to get a Recommend as the odds are way against you… you should be very happy if you get a Consider… you didn’t get a C, you actually got an A-. So feel good about that.

Note: The complete interview used to be online, but I can no longer find it. Trust me, it was epic!
